Teresinha was born in southern Brazil, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences, at the Federal University of Santa Maria, RS, Brazil.  After achieving her Master of Science degree in Animal Sciences, focusing on Animal Nutrition, she worked as a researcher in swine nutrition, initially at the Agronomic Institute of Parana, PR, Brazil, and later at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, National Swine & and Poultry Research Center, SC, Brazil.  Teresinha's professional accomplishments include developing research in several areas of swine nutrition, such as nutritional alternatives to reduce enteric diseases in piglets, evaluation of digestibility and metabolizability of ingredients for piglet diets, nutritional value of ingredients for piglet diets, non conventional ingredients for diets for growing-finishing pigs, digestibility and metabolizability of ingredients for growing-finishing pig diets, and nutritional interventions to increase carcass lean yield in finishing pigs.  Currently, Teresinha is pursuing her Ph.D. in Animal Sciences, with emphasis on Meat Quality, in the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Illinois.  Her research work is focused on the impact of nutritional and management interventions on the dynamics of muscle glycolytic potential and meat quality in pigs.
