Rachuonyo was born and raised in Kenya, Africa, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.  His interest in animal research and teaching inspired him to pursue advance degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he worked initially as a research assistant and later as a teaching assistant.  Rachuonyo’s master’s thesis work investigated effects of feeding high levels of whole cottonseed on nutrition, reproductive, and physiology of dairy cattle.  He proceeded to Texas Tech University where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Animal Science, with a minor in Plant and Soil Science.  His research focused in the areas of plant/animal/nutrient interaction on an outdoor swine production system.  Rachuonyo is currently working as a postdoctoral/research associate fellow in the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Illinois, in Dr. Mike Ellis lab.  He is investigating management and production strategies that could mitigate potential negative impact of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) in the environment, especially from swine enterprises.
