Mike Ellis was born in the county of Northumberland in the North-east of England. He obtained a B.Sc. in Agriculture and a Ph.D. in Applied Swine Genetics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. From 1978 to 1992 he held the position of Lecturer in Pig Production at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Since 1992 he has held the position of Professor of Swine Genetics and Management at the University of Illinois. His research interests include integrated management approaches to improving production efficiency and pork quality. Dr. Ellis has authored or co-authored over 100 papers in refereed journals, more than 150 abstracts, and has given over 80 invited papers at meetings and conferences in more than 15 countries.
